Start Your Real Estate Career in Florida

Thinking about becoming a real estate agent in Florida? Getting your Florida real estate license is a straightforward process — and your new career could be closer than you think.

Here’s what you need to do to become a licensed Florida Real Estate Sales Associate.

Florida Real Estate License Requirements

Before applying, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Have a United States Social Security number
  • Complete the required pre-licensing education
  • Submit an application and electronic fingerprints
  • Pass the Florida Real Estate Sales Associate Examination

Step 1: Complete the 63-Hour Pre-License Course

Florida requires prospective sales associates to successfully complete a 63-hour, FREC-approved pre-licensing course.

The course covers essential real estate principles, practices, Florida real estate law, contracts, financing, property rights, and other topics you’ll need to begin your career.

Your course completion is generally valid for two years for licensing purposes.

Step 2: Apply for Your Florida Real Estate License

Submit your Sales Associate license application to the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR).

Your application must be reviewed and approved before you can take the state licensing examination.

Step 3: Complete Your Fingerprinting

Florida requires real estate license applicants to submit electronic fingerprints as part of the background screening process.

Fingerprints must be submitted through an approved Livescan service provider.

Step 4: Pass the Florida Real Estate Exam

Once you’re approved to test, it’s time to take the Florida Real Estate Sales Associate Examination.

You must earn a score of at least 75 to pass the state examination.

Study, prepare, and give yourself plenty of time to review the material covered during your pre-license course.

Step 5: Activate Your License With a Florida Broker

You passed — congratulations!

Before you can begin working as a real estate sales associate, your license needs to be activated under a registered Florida real estate broker.

And that’s where choosing the right brokerage becomes important.

The brokerage you choose can have a major impact on how you begin your career, develop your skills, and grow your business.
